INTRODUCTION:
Shows back view and angled handle
The WMB JOHNSON GSM-15 4 RANGE SURVEY METER with PROBE (Geiger-Mueller) Detector with angled handle is designed and shaped for easy handling during surveys and monitoring of personnel for alpha, beta, and gamma radiation.
A slip-resistant grip, powder-coated metal housing, and protective stainless steel screen contribute to the overall ruggedness of this instrument. The GM tube is easily removed for replacement if necessary.
This detector operates between 850-1000 volts, with a recommendation from the tube manufacturer of approximately 900 Vdc.
Recommended instrument input sensitivity is approximately 30 mV or higher to prevent the detector from double pulsing (where the detector “counts” a single pulse from the instrument multiple times).
The detector is energy dependent, over-responding by a factor of 6 in the 60 keV to 100 keV range when normalized to 137Cs. Snap-on energy compensation filters are available (see below) that will flatten the energy response when exposure or dose measurements are required.
SPECIFICATIONS:
The Model GSM-500 is a ruggedized, multi purpose survey meter that has a internal energy compensated GM detector and a wide choice of external detectors.
Both internal and external detectors are calibrated separately using the same standard potentiometer type calibration controls.
Both detectors can function as a regular RATEMETER or INTEGRATING METER (DOSE AND CPM).
The external input is designed to accept a wide variety of different probes including GM and SCINTILLATION PROBES.
The high voltage for each detector can be adjusted to a different voltage that is automatically provided when the detector is selected for operation.
Probes are constantly monitored for saturation (overload).
In the event of Saturation meter will be electrically locked full scale until the radiation field at the probe returns to the normal operating range.
The internal detector can only be dose calibrated (Cst").
The external detector can be calibrated in dose and cpm.
The mode of operation (dose or cpm) is switch selectable from the front panel.
An automatic timed integration feature that provides several adjustable preset integration times is available for both detectors as an option.
The timed integration set point can be viewed on the panel meter and easily adjusted by internal screwdriver adjustment.
Calibration of the GSM-500 is easy because the high efficiency MICROPROCESSOR circuitry and built-in linearization curves the probes on the internal and external detectors greatly improves the overall accuracy ofthe model 500.
CPM calibration is factory set and does not require field adjustment.
Diagnostic circuitry constantly monitors the battery, high voltage and detector condition and automatically indicator when operation is out of tolerance.
A heavy-duty analog meter with a large 4.2" scale and red LED's display the 4 linear ranges, signal and internal diagnostics for easy viewing day or night.
RESPONSE time for each range is automatically optimized for each range.
A speaker that produces a loud AUDIBLE CLICK for each probe pulse can be turned OFF or ON from the front panel.
Durability is enhanced by heavy duty' cast aluminum construction and the direct interconnection of the industrial type printed circuit boards.
