Came from a University lab and has always been very well taken care of, that's why it is in wonderful Operational Condition.
Cosmetically the university dept encarved its code on the unit in two places as can also be seen in the pictures, nothing that affects operation whatsoever but we thought important to mention and also to show on the close up pictures of the unit.
Technical Description
The Roland SC-55 Sound Canvas is a GS MIDI sound module first released in 1991 by Roland.
The SC-55 was the first sound module to incorporate the new General MIDI standard and the first units were shipped within hours of the standard's adoption.
The SC-55 uses both PCM and a cut-down version of the LA synthesis engine, to support 24-voice polyphony with 16-part multitimbrality.
It comes preloaded with the Roland MT-32's variation bank.
The SC-55 features 317 instrument patches, including the GS drum kits and additional controllers.
The selection of effects includes reverb and chorus.
This unit is an SC-55 mkII . . .
The mkII has increased polyphony (28 voices), more patches, raising the total number to 354 instruments and extended, improved audio-circuitry in the form of 18-bit audio (versus 16-bit in the original SC 55.)
The SC-55mkII also added a serial port (see photos) allowing it to be attached to a computer without a MIDI interface.
The SC-55 was ground-breaking, but the SC-55 mkII is ground-breaking, more capable, and sounds better!
ABSOLUTELY PRISTINE EXCELENT 100% PERFECT OPERATIONAL CONDITION with normal cosmetic wear as can be seen in the pictures.
