Technical Information in Italics Blue below was taken from Manufacturer's website:

Perkin-Elmer’s Analytical Instruments Division has introduced a new productivity tool

for genetic analysis, biotechnology and pharmaceutical drug discovery research laboratories

— the Molecular Biology Assistant (MBA) 2000 system.

Every laboratory which handles or measures samples containing DNA or

proteins can benefit from the breadth of features in this development. The

MBA 2000 instrument is a truly innovative, compact computational

system which consolidates and organizes routine and customized

functions used in virtually all protocols employing biochemicals.

The new system employs an intuitive touchscreen display and has no

moving parts in a nine-inch wide, lowprofile package. Choices are made

with a touch-to-select action, and a crisp color graphics display prompts

the user as needed to complete the tasks.

The system serves the laboratory researcher every hour of the day by making

computations and quantitation extremely accessible and rapid.

Most tasks are completed in a matter of seconds.

The MBA 2000 system is designed exclusively to provide targeted and applications

specific assistance for the daily chores of the molecular biologist.

MBA 2000 - spectrometer, photometer, UV/Vis spectrometer

The MBA 2000 (Molecular Biology Assistant) from Perkin-Elmer is a compact, easy to use UV/Vis Spectrophotometer. It measures and instantly displays spectra and performs respective calculations for specific applications. The instrument uses Array Technology and measures and displays the entire UV/ Vis spectrum between 200nm and 700nm within one second. The MBA 2000 allows general spectroscopic analysis and all typical routine photometric measurements (Absorbance / Concentration...) of liquid samples in 1cm cells.

The MBA 2000 is designed for biological applications as they are frequently used in molecular biological and clinical labs. Among others this includes the quantification of Nucleic Acids, DNA purity-checks and quantification of Proteins. On top of this, it offers various calculation possibilities and lab tools for typical lab applications. Ready-to-use pre-programmed methods are available for a wide range of typical bio-applications (list of methods below). This makes the operation extremely simple and intuitive. UV/Vis Spectroscopy can't be easier and faster!

In addition to the bio-methods, the MBA 2000 includes various defined methods for any other UV/Vis application. Thus the instrument can be used in any lab for typical UV/Vis measurements. The methods include spectral scanning, concentration determination with factor or simple or complex calibration curves. A listing of the respective methods can be found below.

The MBA 2000 is the ideal UV/Vis spectrometer for routine UV/Vis application in any lab. It is also ideal for education purposes because it instantly displays the entire spectrum and allows do demonstrate all classical UV/Vis applications.

Other (information from the previous owner):

The MBA 2000 from Perkin-Elmer is a compact, easy-to-use spectrophotometer that measures and displays a spectrum in a very short time and at the same time carries out application-related measurements. Because it uses array technology, the entire UV/Vis spectrum between 200nm and 700nm is displayed instantly. It therefore allows general spectroscopic analysis and all common photometric measurements (absorption / concentration...) of liquid samples in 1 cm cuvettes.Due to the simple operation and the measurement of the entire spectrum, the device is suitable for any UV/Vis applications in the routine laboratory as well as for research and teaching. The MBA 2000 is designed for biological applications, in particular for quantifying nucleic acids, determining DNA purity and determining protein concentrations, and also offers a wide range of calculation options and areas of application in biochemical analysis. Ready-made methods are already pre-programmed for this, which makes the application particularly easy and intuitive (list of methods below). UV/Vis spectroscopy couldn't be simpler or faster!

However, the device can also be used for all other typical UV/Vis spectroscopic applications. Ready-to-use methods are also prepared for this, which only need to be adapted for the specific application. Then spectra can be recorded quickly and easily, or concentrations can be measured (with factor or calibration curve). A list of the prepared methods is given below.
