Even a short list of her exhibitions seems dizzying.

Mary Todd exhibited her art in England, France, Holland, Ireland, Japan, Italy, Mexico, Scotland, Argentina and Spain, New York City and in many galleries and museums throughout the United States.

Mary Todd has won wide acclaim, been on display and receiving Worldwide and National awards on occasions too numerous to mention.

She received well over 85 awards.

Her work is held in many museum, corporate, and personal collections throughout the world.

Her work is defined by flawless composition and architectural harmony.

Her works were partially inspired by Joseph Cornell, there is an air of nostalgia surrounding them.

Indeed, it has been said that Shaw 'gives art a sense of history'.

For instance this 'HARBOR SEAL' is an oft repeated device, a photograph or an image she imposes across time and space in the vast majority of her work.

She was never afraid to take risks, or to appear undignified as she pursued her artistic vision and joy of life.

Abundant imagination and exceptional talent resulted in her work being shown worldwide and published in several books.

Her work is also in many museum, corporate, and personal collections.

In life as in art Mary Todd Shaw was a leader who did not follow trends or fads, rather her own instincts and unique style.

Always a trailblazer, Mary Todd Shaw was one of the first two women to attend Georgia Tech part time to learn drafting.

“Watch Out Boys, Girls Invade Georgia Tech” headlined the Atlanta newspaper.

During the 70’s she attended UNC Charlotte and earned her bachelors degree in Fine Arts.

In addition to painting, sculpture, and printmaking, and collage, one of her favorite media was three-dimensional assemblage.

“My work begins with a concept, not a preconceived idea,” she said, “the process of constructing is an adventure with an unexpected ending.”

Her work was humorous, profound, perceptive, and thought provoking.

Mary Todd had a sharp wit, keen intelligence, an indomitable spirit, a great sense of humor, and provocative vision.

Mary Todd loved conversation and her laughter was infectious.

WWII bride Mary Todd married Edward Harrison Shaw in 1941. She returned to Rome Georgia and opened a studio where she taught art lessons until his return from Hawaii.Mary Todd Shaw (02/09/1921- 2013) was born  in Gadsen, AL, during a flood and is most widely known for her 'sculptures atop little boxes', internal miniature scenarios, copy art, and stamp art.

Also in 1985 she hosted a one-person show at Charlotte's Mint Museum.

Additionally, her work was featured at the Tokio Museum in Japan, at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, and the State Department Show hosted by the Museo de Bella Arts in Buenos Aires.
