There are few scratches in the exterior paint. The foam insulation inside the covers does not fall apart when touched.

We looped the inlet to the outlet and switched it on. The pump gave a steady stream into the reservoir. The flow meters' indicators did indicate flow. With a full reservoir, the water temperature fell from 74ºF to 35ºF in under half an hour (it was sitting with the condensing unit off, with the water cold, when we came to check on it half an hour after starting).
The water level switch works.
