Introduction
The Hybrid Capture System (HCS) Rotary Shaker 1 is an instrument designed to shake microplates and microtube racks and consists of a shaker base and a shaker platform.
FunctionalDescription
The HCS Rotary Shaker 1 is a shaker platform attached to a shaker base with 4 screws. The shaker platform has a spring-loaded, height-adjustable roller bar that can secure two 96- well microplates or 2 microtube racks. The shaker platform has a non-skid rubber surface that stabilizes sample containers during shaking. The HCS Rotary Shaker 1 can hold up to 2 kilograms (4 lbs) of weight.
The HCS Rotary Shaker 1 can be used in environments from 0–50°C, allowing for cold room use as well as incubated applications.
The HCS Rotary Shaker 1 is constructed of heavy-gauge steel that provides a stable base for a steady, vibration-free operation.

The speed of the Shaker 1 is variable, from 200–1200 revolutions per minute (RPM). It operates in a circular motion with an orbit of 0.3 cm (0.12 inches).
The HCS Rotary Shaker 1 features a timer with an operating time range from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. Continuous shaking is achieved when the time controller is placed in the HOLD position.

GeneralOperation
The HCS Rotary Shaker 1 can be used in either continuous or timer-terminated operation.
Certain load and speed ratios can cause vibration of the instrument. If the instrument vibrates, adjust the speed and/or load as necessary to eliminate the vibration.
5.1 Continuous operation
1. Power ON the instrument.
The power indicator illuminates.
2. Using the speed controller, set the desired speed.
3. Set the time controller to HOLD.
Note: An audible click is heard when setting the time controller to HOLD.
4. Load microplates or microtube racks onto the shaker platform by pulling back on the roller bar, inserting the microplates or microtube racks and slowly releasing the roller bar to the secure the microplates or microtube racks.
5. Make sure the roller bar is even and tight and positioned to hold the microplates or microtube racks firmly. Place the microplates or microtube racks symmetrically for a good balance. If shaking a single microplate or microtube rack, center it on the shaker platform. If shaking 2 microplates or microtube racks, place one each on the left and right sides of the shaker platform equidistant from the center.
6. Make sure that the screws on each end of the roller bar are tight.
7. To begin shaking,press the start/stop switch.
The running indicator light illuminates, and the HCS Rotary Shaker 1 will shake continuously until the start/stop switch is pressed.
8. To stop the shaking, press the start/stop switch.

Timer-terminated operation
Timer-terminated operation allows for timed shaking procedures. The time controller does not move in timer-terminated operation. At the end of the designated time, repeat the shaking with the same parameters by simply pressing the start/stop switch. The shaking time may be set between 30 seconds and 30 minutes.
1. Power ON the instrument.
The power indicator illuminates.
2. Using the speed controller,set the desired speed.
3. Using the time controller, set the desired time interval.
4. Load microplates or microtube racks onto the shaker platform by pulling back on the roller bar, inserting the microplates or microtube racks and slowly releasing the roller bar to the secure the microplates or microtube racks.
5. Make sure the roller bar is even and tight and positioned to hold the microplates or microtube racks firmly in position. Place the microplates or microtube racks symmetrically for a good balance. If shaking a single microplate or microtube rack, center it on the shaker platform. If shaking 2 microplates or microtube racks, place one each on the left and right sides of the shaker platform equidistant from the center.
6. Make sure that the screws on each end of the roller bar are tight.

Note: Shaking can be interrupted by pressing the start/stop switch. To resume shaking, press the start/stop switch.
