Punch Hand Puppet Wood Carved Head Vintage German
Kasper (also Kasperl or Kasperle , Bavarian Káschberl , Swabian Kaschberle , Alemannic Chaschperli ) is the comic hero of the Kaspertheater , a puppet theater usually performed with hand puppets.
It is assumed that the role of Kasper goes back to, among others, the Hanswurst of the Viennese Volkstheater.
The puppet character Kasper has been known in the German-speaking world since the end of the 18th century .
Kasper usually wears a long pointed cap, a dress reminiscent of Harlequin with a large, colorful pattern. Kasperl's characteristic laughing face with the conspicuous nose (often a hooked nose) is reminiscent of carnival masks and makes him recognizable even when in disguise.
There are characters similar to Punch in many countries, for example Mr. Punch ( Punch and Judy ) in the United Kingdom, Guignol in France, Jan Klaassen in the Netherlands, Mester Jakel in Denmark, Pulcinella in Italy, Fasulis in Greece, Petrushka (speaks through a whistle) in Russia and Vasilache in Romania.
