There is a sewn written marking stating the following in the back of this rug: "Goyan is the name of a large tribe which used to belong to the very important Hartushi group in the Hakkari region west of Lake Urmia (Persia). The splendor of the carpets and kilims produced in this region is the work of skilled craftsmen using ancestral weaving techniques. Typical colours include salmon-red, medium and dark blues for the background and border with tones of yellows, blues, greens and lilac for the floral decoration."

Hartushi Goyan Origin by Kurdish villagers in the mountains of the Turkish Hakkari region south of Lake Van.
Type: Most Hartushis have small borders and large dramatic medallion type centers repeated in twos, threes, fours, or fives, or fractions thereof. The fields are relatively uncluttered. Hartushi rug designs are native to the Kurdish Eastern Anatolian-Caucasian area, though an occasional piece is influenced by other Oriental weaving. The execution, however, is from the mind, or possibly from another rug, but not from a detailed drawing.
